Do physical therapist who have their own practice make six figure income? I know that if they work for someone, it will probably be around $70k to $80k a year but is the income increased by opening their own practice?

In the long term, yes, it can be a very lucrative career move…however some practices fail and nearly all of them require hard, hard work. My good friend who owns his own clinic for the last 20 years regularly works 60 hours a week and has only been on one vacation in the past 10 years. He’s been able to put two kids through very expensive private colleges and owns a nice home in a wealthy community, but he works very hard….

Yes, this is very up-and-coming profession. The baby boomers (those who were born betwee mid-40s and mid-60s) are getting older and need PT for arthritis and other age-related problems. Your income may be increased by opening your own practice, but think of the outlay for equipment, building and so on. Most of the PTs I see in my big-city area are chains. I think this is a good profession, I was really helped after a car accident.

Appartently I just read that you can make a lot more money by opening your own practice and having others work for you. It seems pretty lucrative.
