I’m only 23 years old and I’ve already had surgery on one of my knees about 7 years ago for meniscus tears. I occasionally still suffer from knee pain, but once the weather gets cold, they start to hurt even worse. Does anyone know what causes this? Also..since I’ve already had surgery and many physical therapy sessions, why do I still have pain? Arthritis runs in my family and I’m scared that if I have knee pain now and I’m only in my 20′s I can only imagine how it will be when I’m older!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think that you might have arthritis. I have it in both my knees, the right is worse than the left, and right know i am recovering from my 6th knee surgery on the right knee to help with the pain. You also might have scarring from the surgery, I know when my doctor did this surgery he found A LOT of scar tissue build up in my knees that he had to clean out. I am only 37 so i know how you feel about thinking about how it might be when you are older.

My sister had ACL surgery recently, and she went through 7 months of physical therapy. She still struggles with knee pain from time to time, but usually her knees feel just fine. I think that the cold weather stiffens your muscles and joints, and due to your sensitive knee, it’ll tense up and hurt more. Try taking about 500mg of Advil, it should ease the pain.
Don’t worry too much about your knee pain, it’s very common to have more pain after surgery, my sister still has pain, and the pain will be difficult through life at times. But talk to your doctor if you want to know how you can relieve the pain more.
I really hope this helped! I’ll pray for your knee!

hmm…maybe its the nervs. I have nerv damage in my right hip and leg from a surgery and it hurts in the cold along with jolts of pain, crawling sensations, half numbness, etc.
look into your nervs and tendons. Since im not sure how it feels for you or all the full facts, thats what I can recommend from my own experience. That and go to your doctor, it may relate to Arthritis too.
Im sorry your going through this so young =c if it helps any im only 17 and will be like this for life =/ Worse when im older.

if you have arthritis pain, as i did, see if your doc will prescribe diclofenac. it is an NSAID used for arthritic pain. extremely effective. i felt like i had gotten a grease job in my joints.
