I have had patella femoral syndrom in both my knees for about 4 years now. I am an active and competative dancer and no i can’t take it easy and i will never stop dancing. I wear knee braces whenever i dance and i have gone to physical therapy for about 8 weeks and the tracking of my patella has greatly improved it still rotates a little bit outward but it is alot better and my therapist said my knee control is ten times better. But the pain has barely gone away! I have done the RICE meathod millions of times and while the ice helps for a little bit it is short lived. Is it possible this is not PFS? Do i need surgery? My therapist said there’s not much more he can do…..how can i stop this terrible pain!!!!!!
P.S. I also have been off dance all this week and will be all of next
P.S.S I am a 14 year old female

Where are your parents?
The pain has not gone away because, even though the rotation is getting better, you have not allowed your muscles to heal. As much as you don’t want to, you do need to stop dancing for, even at home, at least 4 weeks (it can take muscles upto 8 weeks to heal properly), don’t even slip in a couple of steps here and there. Keep your knee bandaged or in the brace and iced even when not dancing. It will seem like forever to stop, but If you have surgery you will be out much much longer and recovery will be even longer possibly resulting in your not be able to dance again…You have to take the lesser of 2 evils.
