I have read many entries similar to my problem but not exactly. I’ll continue with the list of known facts,
My muscles are unusually tight (on the problem side, my right side upper back) and it seems they have turned to hard tissue all up the right side of my spine and trap and I have been told by someone who works deep tissue message therapy that knots continue under my shoulder blade and that I have scar tissue. I have had this problem for over a year now, and just recently I can’t take a deep breath without something pinching then popping and this happens often.
Ive gone to a chiropractor, 20+ visits (only thing noticeable in Xray besides slight curvature and almost straight neck is the disk above my tailbone that is “degenerating” and I think its from a couple embarrassing, high falls .. one in the gym and one in the woods)
Emory Spine Specialists recommended me to physical therapy which I discontinued.
More facts: When I was 18 or 19 I had a bad fall on concrete, hitting my head and upper back at the same time.
I have played basketball throughout my youth, practicing continuous long shots.
I have slight S scoliosis 11 degrees, which really isn’t enough to cause me problems, so I have been told
And the spine specialists told me my problem is because I am too flexible (bone wise), so that is why they sent me to physical therapy for muscle strengthening, but everything they had me do is what I already do at the gym (easy light weights so not to strain, and stretches which now seem to make the pain worse).
To wrap it up I just would like to say how frustrating it is to have to go through so many “professionals” and all the work of filling out paperwork and making the appointments that comes with it, just to hear them tell me to go somewhere else, and they don’t know whats wrong with me.
So my next desperate attempt is to schedule some kind of MRI and go to a neuromusclar doc. and hopefully read some responses to this whiny post. If anyone has any knowledge about a condition that I might have developed please reply! Thanks so much to those of you reading this!!

Oh my goodness! Well you have handled it very well with going and getting all these test’s and what not, and you should deffinantely get the MRI Etc. But LISTEN, the way you describe your back pain, it sounds horrible, and nobody should have to deal with that! You need to absolutely go to a doctor and request Percocet for your back pain! Im sure you know, Percocet is a pain pill, OxyCodone and Acetimenophin and it is like Vicodin but a tad bit stronger. Anyway, just truthfully describe your back pain (even exagerate and make it sound worse if you can) and he should give them to you, and they will Absolutely 100% take away ALL of your pain. Now, rarely the Doc. might turn you down, but just go to another!!! Please take my advice and deffinately get some pain pills, anyhing, Percocet would be the best, but you could also get Lortab Vicodin any of that! (Also , do be careful Not to form any kind of habits with taking these pills, use them soley for your back pain!) I hope my advice will help, V i n n i e M.

Do the MRI. Take some mild tylenol or Advil and try and have some one give you back rubs. I am not saying you need to start drinking but a nice glass of wine might not hurt, relax you. Hot baths.
How is your posture. Do you sit all day. Is your bed firm. Yes strengthen your abdominal muscles (sit ups or crunches but with proper technique). The stronger the abdominal muscles the better the back will be.
I think exercise, strength training (careful), some mild over the counter pain relief. You have some kind of nerve issue or muscle. You have tried all the things you can do. I am NOT saying it is in your mind but you need to think about the future with out pain and that you will get better. The weight traning and back rubs and a little wine (I am not kidding but LITTLE just a glass) will help.
You have some issues of course, the scoliosis (which I agree is minor but its all connected) and the disk. DO WHAT EVER YOU CAN BUT DON’T DO SURGERY. That would be a last resort and even than don’t do it. 99% of people have back pain at some point in their life and half of those cronic for some time period.
