have had bad back problems for almost a year. i visit the chiropractor at least 2 times a month. i have had x-ray’s done and nothing was wrong. he calls it a strange case because i continue to have back pain yet i am all aligned when i come to visit and my x-rays are showing nothing. i have been to physical therapy for 3 months last yr and it helped to an extent. i have put ice and heat on it. for a while i was on muscle relaxers and ibuprofen regularly. i only take them when i need them now. i have massage and stuff too. i am tired of pain. i am an athlete and i quit for a while in the summer and on school breaks but that doesnt seem to help or hurt me any more. my lower back hurts mildly (on a scale of 1-10 it would be a 2-3) all the time. but sometimes i have these flare ups where it can go anywhere from a 6 to an 8. my drs are having trouble figuring out what they can do next. since nothing seems to be really wrong. what should i do? please help.
thanks

Persistent back pain in a 17 year old with exaccerbations and remittences should be evaluated further…especially if you’ve had not had full relief from PT or chiropractic care.
It may be time for further tests…MRI, bone scan as well as a further medical work up…blood tests, etc.

I had a herniated disk, which is the gel between the vertebra.
They finally found it because it was in my neck and I had to have surgery. My mother in-law had so much trouble with her back, that they put an electrical device under the skin in her back that helped the pain so much, and no one knew it was there. Have you been to an orthopedic Dr. that deals with the back and that is his specialty?=======

Number one: Forget your chiropractor, and X-Rays. An X-Ray won’t show all the bone density or the soft tissue like the disc, the nerves, etc, this is where the problem is, in the soft tissue.
What you need is a Neurologist or an Orthopedic surgeon for a proper Evaluation and, diagnosis. Maybe therapy will be on the table but, they will know what to do after a proper evaluation. You will need MRI’s and, or, a CAT scan. They also have deep scan CATS that can make a three “D” evaluation.
If the pain is that bad ask for something that’s mild at fist, see if that helps. Sleep with a pillow between your legs or, at night under your knees. Make sure you sleep with a hard mattress, put a piece of plywood under it.

It is probably the type of shoes you are wearing, believe it or not. Next time, pay attention to which shoes you are wearing when the back pain flares up. Another thing i can think of is slouching. Do you slouch when you’re sitting at a desk? Do you lean your head forward/down when you’re on the computer?
