Severe back pain in a young adult under the age of 18 should always be investigated further. You’ve had an MRI, but on what part of your body? Although the area you describe commonly has referred pain from the neck, the thorasic spine should also be considered. If you’ve had one, but not the other, there is a possibility you should have the other one examined.
What types of things make the pain better or worse? Mid-thorasic pain can have medical causes such as an esophageal ulcer. These typically get worse upon lying down…especially after eating. The gall bladder can also refer pain to this area. Have you had any recent changes to your diet, are you taking any medications, have you had any blood work done? These are all things to discuss with your physician.

could be a pinched nerve. try ibuprofen or something like that for inflammation im no doctor but sounds similar to what my friends dad had. he had lifted something wrong and got a pinched nerve in his neck!! he could hardly move without pain killers. physical therapy will make it worst bc its will just keep pinching it. unfortunately there isn’t much you can do for pinched nerves but have them work themselves out and just hinder the pain.

not to be rude but are you overweight? cause that extra weight can really put stress on your spinal cord/ back…i once weight close to 300 pounds with almost the same back problems, but once i ate healthier and loss ALOT of weight, it all seemed to disappear!

You need to talk to your doctor. They have to refer you to an orthopedist, and also your studies may need to be re-read by a specialist. Sometimes there might be a “pinched nerve” in your spine, some tiny bulges, protrusions that press on the spinal cord. However, sometimes you may have “referred pain” and then the body part hurting may not be the spine but maybe from shoulder. You may have to see an orthopedist, neurologist/neurosurgeon – to check the nerves, and if they do not find anything else, there is the option of pain management, and they can treat you sometimes with some medicinal foods, so it is not all prescriptions. Please talk to your doctor tomorrow, and if PT hurts so much, you need to tell them immediately because you can hurt yourself more.
One other thing – some people are claustrophobic and go into open scanners for MRI studies, but these are not of such good quality, and sometimes you may need to get another imaging done (in another facility) with better resolution to actually see what is going on. Double check with your doctor/orthopedist about it, and if they do not know anything, you can always ask for a referral for a second opinion. Some patients may see two to three doctors before someone finds what is really wrong. Good luck!
