I had a shoulder injury a week ago during a rock climbing sessions. My shoulder had been getting weaker for the past 2 months probably due to posture issues, and then one night while climbing I heard some ugly grinding/crunching noises while reaching for a hold. The next day sure enough my shoulder hurt enough that I had hardly any range of motion. Although a week has passed and i’ve regained some mobility, I don’t know what I can do to make it better.
When I stretch it in certain directions it obviously hurts, but is this something I’m supposed to power through to stretch it out? or am i not supposed to push it if it doesn’t feel comfortable? I was told by a doctor that it was an impingement and that I should get PT, but its not covered by my insurance.
Are there any useful exercises someone could recommend that I do at home on my own?
Thanks
I am currently going to school to be an athletic trainer. Is it possible to get a degree in athletic training and go back for a semester or two to get a degree as a physical therapy assistant?

I was in an auto accident on May 1, 2010. I was hit by a red light runner (open container found in car) that was going approximately 80mph. Unforunately, the driver passed away on impact. I suffered a fractured ulna to my left arm. I was placed in a cast then a removable ulna brace for four months. I go back to the doctor on November 8th, to find out if I will be allowed to ride my all terrain vehicles this winter. My medical expenses are at approximately 7K and appoximately $2k in lost pay. I occassionally suffer from pain due to overuse. I am trying to figure out how much I might expect to receive from my settlement according to similar cases.
role of a PT?

I recently started PT for fibromyalgia and leg pain, muscle weakness, etc.
The PT diagnosed a rotated pelvis and did leg manipulations to fix it. Isn’t this unusual/inappropriate for a PT to do this? When I went to my second appt I complained about how much pain I was in following the first appt, so he attempted to be gentler the second time but I ended up in even more severe pain. My back/tailbone, legs, etc are hurting a lot. I plan to see my chiropractor next week but I want to understand how far a PT should be going.

I recently obtain a fracture on my 5th Metatarsal this pass month.I’ve been stuck in this leg cast for about 9 weeks, Its been a rough and uncomfortable 2 months needless to say, my question is how long does it take to be in tip top shape and what kind of exercise can I do so I can receive a finer, faster recovery?
Thank you in advance,

About a month ago i injured my knee causing me not to walk. I went to the ER and they found no breaks gave me crutches and a brace and sent me home. I can kind of walk now but not with my leg straight. When i try and straighten my leg the top of my knee feels like its going to break (by ny thigh kind of) Does anybody know or have had similar problems that were fixed? I would really appreciate if someone told me.thank you.
Greetings. I am looking for a career change and very interested in becoming a physical therapist. It has been 10 years since I graduated from my University with a B.A. in English/Political Science (with little, if any applicable science credits) and have been currently working in law firm management since graduation. Would appreciate it very much if anyone could point me in the right direction of where I could complete the pre-reqs towards a PT degree (joint programs) specifically in New York City (part time or full time) or online programs. Many thanks in advance, Ina.
Recently, I started to experience back pain that I thought had “resolved” since last summer. The pain begins in the back of my left hip (low low back/glut area) and continues around the side of my left leg to the knee. It doesn’t seem to be exacerbated when walking, rather while lying down or bending past the waist, leaning away from the painful side. Perhaps most interesting is that my back pain can be described as trigger point-like (in that I feel like if I could just manage to crack my back at that one point, I could get a tremendous amount of relief) while my leg pain is a burning/tingling discomfort. Although somewhat different symptoms, they certainly feel related.
For a little over a year, I’ve intermittently experienced the same or a very similar presentation of symptoms. Although the severity of my leg pain would vary, the localized, back trigger point remained the same. I’ve actually visited a chiropractor and an orthopedist, but neither seemed to really think anything was serious. I had two separate X-rays respectively performed, but I don’t think it showed any significant symptoms. Although my chiropractor said that my spine was out of wack, he didn’t ever really get to the point of making any real progress in relieving my back pain. So that was the end of that.
Luckily, the pain seemed to clear up for awhile, but in the past couple of days returned. Last night, I was so uncomfortable that I ended up waking up and not being able to fall asleep for 4 hours. In the danger of self diagnosing, I did a ton of research into what might be causing this problem. At first, it appeared to be related to a sciatiaca issue, but my pain isn’t in the back of my thigh nor does it radiate past my knee and into my toes. What I found to be most applicable is a possible nerve/disc problem at L3-L4. It seems that I have the same trigger point and range of radicular symptoms; however, I am unsure of whether this can only be caused by a herniated disc or something less serious. Although uncomfortable and certainly painful, it does not seem that my symptoms are severe enough to warrant such a serious diagnosis.
I’m a 23 year old female who is very active. I run 4-5 times a week and work out at the same frequency. I was a competitive gymnast for 14 years, but did not experience any such back pain while actively competing. In fact, despite my workout regime, it does not seem that the pain is triggered nor made worse by any of my physical activity. It comes and goes at irregular intervals and for irregular periods of time. Although I know should be going to a doctor, given my past experience, I’d rather not have to shell out more money for further diagnostic studies and co-pays only to find out that it does not seem that anything is wrong.
If anyone has experienced any similar symptoms, pain, or has any idea of what this may be, i’d GREATLY appreciated any advice/direction that could be provided.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
I have back pain from carrying my 35lb daughter on my back when we went hiking last week. I only had her on my back for about 1.5 hours. I was fine until the next day. I have been icing it. What else can I do? How long do I wait until I see a Dr?
