In May I had a stress fracture to the 5th metatarsal of my right foot, and I am still having pain . An Orthopedic Surgeon diagnosed the pain as RSD- something with my nerves are overreacting to the trauma of the break. Has anyone ever experienced that? If so what was your outcome and how did they treat it? I am in Physical Therapy for it right now, but what happened to you all???

I was involved in a car accident almost 5 years ago. I’ve been to one chiropractor for almost 2 years with no results. Then to 2 different physical therapy, with little relief besides when they pulled my neck away from my body. I’ve had many injections in my back, 1 lasting 3-4 months, another for 1 month or so, and the others maybe a week or so, sometimes nothing at all.
I’ve had 2 Epidurals done, one lasted 3 months the other a month.
I’ve gone to a sports medicine doctor, a few other specialists. Most not recommending surgery because they cannot find the problem. I had a cat scan and a MRI and showed there was something a bit strange in my T 7-8 in my back. I have to take vicodin everyday for pain, and sometimes it doesn’t even work. I’m a healthly 22 year old. Working out at the gym seems to help my back sometimes. It’s a sharp pain in my upper right side of my back, near my spine too. If you push on certain spots on my spine near the pain, its really tender.
I’m running out of help and ideas, please someone, guide me towards someone to see, or some kind of doctor, I will not do surgery as i’ve been recommended not to, so I’m not sure what to do. I just need help, I want to be normal again and not in pain. I still can barely do the things I love and it’s really starting to take effect on how I live my life and my mood. Please someone…. Help..
I live near SF, California if that helps.
I have had this pain for 8 years now with no relief from doctors. I have been told that I have nerve damage and I am considered partially disabled. With pain that is stopping me from getting back in to the work force. I have been denied disability because I am partially disable. I am at my wits end, is there any help out there for people partial disability’s to get some type of relief from chronic pain and help finding a job for persons with physical disabilities. When you have been told from vocational rehab the reason people with disabilities don’t get jobs is that the tell they have one. I do have one that impaires my life forever and I am not considered to be disable but I can’t get get relief from pain or find sutible work. It is getting to the point I wonder if i am better off dead…..really it has been a hard 8 years trying to survive with kids and not be able to provide for them like you use to before my auto accident……Help is needed Please
I just graduated from physical therapy in Colombia and I´d like to know where can I keep studying. Exercise science would be great. Thanks
PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE ANSWERING:
I’m 21 and after I badly dislocated my kneecap 2 years ago, I never even been to the hospital or gotten any MRIs, so I have no idea the extent of my damage.
The time I injured my knee, a guy helped me pop it back in and I was taken home instead of the hospital. My dad built a knee immobilizer for me and it took 2 months to walk again. After that I never had physical therapy, just regular workouts.
Now this is where I got REALLY stupid: Last summer, a year after my serious injury, I was running barefoot ON SAND 3-4 times a week for an hour each time for 2 months. I weighed 125 pounds at the time. One day I stopped running cuz the knee pain got too bad to continue. I heard that running is the first thing to avoid for a bad knee.
Eventually I’ll go see an orthopedic surgeon and get an MRI.
For now all I’m curious to know is:
WHAT’S THE WORST THAT COULD BE WRONG WITH MY KNEE AS THE RESULT OF MY NEGLECT? FOR EXAMPLE, LIGAMENT OR MENISCUS DAMAGE?
I shattered my left ankle and sprained my right ankle by falling off a horse and landing on my feet. The impact was so strong that one of my ankles fractured and the other one resulting in 3rd degree sprain. I’m pretty much in the process of healing for the fractured ankle after 2 surgeries, but I am concerned about the sprained one because I’m still having pain, epecially when I rotate it around.
I also get a sudden sharp pain occasionally whever I’m walking. It’s been 4 months since the accident and I have been going to physical therapy for 2 months already.
Do you think these conditions are considered normal? Am I going to be able to get any better?
After having surgeries for 2 torn ligaments and muscle in the knee..had to start physical therapy. Its the third day and it feels like a muscle was torn again and hurts badly. Is this normal for it to be this painful or should I check it at the hospital tomorrow?
I had my ACL repaired 5 weeks ago (hamstring graft, no meniscus or other work needed). I have been following my physical therapy plan thoroughly and everything was going great until about 2 days ago. I was sitting at my computer doing homework for about 4 hours and when I got up, my knee was really stiff. I didn’t think anything of it because I had felt this before when it had been bent for a long period of time then straightened. Ever since then, however, my knee hurts when I straighten it and put weight on it while it is straight (mainly when I put weight on my heel with a straight knee. The pain is similar to the pain I had after I originally tore my ACL although I never heard a pop or felt my knee slip. Should I be worried that I re-tore my ACL?
let me start off with a brief history. i have bursitis in my right hip. i’ve had it for 9 years. i also sprained my knee on the same leg 7 years ago. about 2 months ago my knee started hurting again. (my hip kind of aches all the time, but my knee i usually have no problem with) i also have flat feet. my knee has been hurting every day for 2 months. i take advil for it which lowers the pain but it always comes back, i ice my knee twice a day for at least an hour. but my knee keeps getting worse and worse. i can barely walk up and down the stairs in the morning, its also hard for me to climb the ladder at work. i basically have a permanent limp from my hip problems, and my spine is slightly curved from putting all my weight on my other leg, so basically my leg is messed up. i have been to physical therapy for my hip and gotten cortizone shots in my hip. i would go to the doctor but i have no health insurance and i can’t afford any treatment. fortunatley, i just started working at safeway, so in 6 months i will have health insurance. until then. i have no idea what to do for the pain, or what might be wrong with my knee. any ideas? it keeps getting worse and worse, i don’t know what to do. i’m only 23 years old and i don’t know how worse this is going to get. any help or ideas would be awesome
Aug 29th I had a non-displaced distial radial fracture. A week later it was casted by my primary doc. It kept swelling at the bottom of the cast, pushing my cast up and causing severe pain. 5 weeks later the cast came off (1.5 weeks ago), break healed nicely. Been to physical therapy 4 times, and done my home exercises now as well and wear a simple splint when not doing pt.
But I am still in horrible amounts of pain, can barely move my wrist in any direction. When I do anything with it (sometimes nothing with it as im still off work) it swell horrible, up to double in size from my elbow to my fingertips.
My PT doesn’t seem concerned, but after 10 days out of my cast, 7 weeks after the break, this is starting to worry me. Should I be pushing to see an orthopedist? Should I be pushing for an MRI, or is this all normal?
Thank You
