No, there are different licensure requirements between PTs, ATCs, and PTAs…one cannot fulfill the official role of the other. However, ATCs can work as a physical therapy technician which is an unlicensed position that typically requires direct supervision by a PT and usually pays about $17,000 a year.

Is Athletic Training A Good Undergraduate Degree For Someone Who Wants To Be A Physical Therapist?

Honestly, I am iffy about the Physical Therapy because of the added school time I will need. BUT with Athletic Training I’ll be doing so many cool things like I’d be doing as a PT, but with only 4 years of school. Either way. If I wanted to do the DPT, I could just apply to graduate school.
I want to become an athletic trainer. but I know that they dont get paid very much and the hours are long. I also know that a lot of athletic trainers end up looking for a different job. So I have been looking for a back up and I was wondering if I could get my bachelors degree in athletic training, then continue on to grad school get a degree in physical therapy in case I end up wanting to switch jobs.
I just finished my first year of college with a major of Athletic Training. I have always wanted to be a physical therapist but I did not know what major to choose because it is only offered as a masters. Is Athletic Training a good major to choose and will it be easy for me to get my pre-requisites for the PT school?
I am currently planning on majoring in Athletic Training in college, and I was wondering if that would be a good major for getting me into a master’s physical therapy program?
If not athletic training, what other majors would be good to prepare me for a career in physical therapy??
Thanks!
