I have pain in one side of my lower body. it starts on my butt cheek, then down the hamstring and back of knee and down to my calf muscle. Also my foot is somewhat numb. I have to walk with a limp, I can sit down but it hurts to get up. Also, laying in bed hurts when I turn over. I have been to the Dr. and there is possibility of orthopedic surgery. Has anyone heard of not electing to have surgery, and have chiropractor or physical therapy/massage fix the problem? What about acupuncture will that correct the bulging disk. I saw the MRI and can see where it is a bulge, but the Dr. looks like she might be pushing surgery because it costs more money. Anyone have the same problem(s)? Serious answers by people who have had this problem before or doctors, please. Dont answer if you think you might know or are just guessing.

Hello, all. I really need some help on this one, especially from anyone with expertise. I know I’ve seen chiropractors and such on here before, so I’m counting on you guys. ![]()
My husband has been dealing with serious back pain off-and-on for most of his life. It got a lot better during college, when he was frequently alternating between sitting, walking, standing, and active exercise. However, after college, he got a desk job. He spends a great deal of time seated, with his arms outstretched to work on the computer; he is a graphic designer. After a few months of working there, his back problems started to come back with a vengeance. Around a year ago, I got him going to a chiropractor. It really seemed to be helping a lot. However, after his visit yesterday, he found out that he has run out of insurance-covered visits. He asked how much it would be without the insurance, but it was more than we could afford, even if we cut back to once every two weeks.
We’re considering trying to get him in to see a regular doctor, since that would still be covered by the insurance, but this presents its own set of problems:
1. He works from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Mon. – Fri. and he’s low on sick days, so we pretty much have to find somewhere that’s open late or on the weekend.
2. He doesn’t handle pain pills well. It’s not that they make him sick, it’s just that they only seem to work for a rather short period before they lose effectiveness. In addition to being rather hard on one’s liver, this sort of thing could lead to addiction, and makes pain management rather difficult.
3. Surgery would, to my understanding, likely put him out of commission for months, and I don’t believe he would be eligible to continue receiving pay that entire time.
4. Our insurance company puts physical therapy and chiropractic under the same category, if I’m not mistaken, so it probably isn’t an option.
As you can see, we’re in a bind. He’s been searching for other work for the last 2 years, and has not had any luck as of yet. We don’t know what to do. Please help!
I am so miserable. I hurt my back three weeks ago coming back from a trip and carrying heavy luggage around the airport. I finally went to the doctor and he said it was a muscle spasm but he wanted me to have x-rays incase it was a herniated disc. The x-rays didn’t show anything but I suspect that x-rays would only show a break. I’m in so much pain. As soon as my back feels a little better I overdo it and then it hurts again. Right now I’m on muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatories. My doctor said that the next step would be physical therapy but I can’t afford it and I don’t know what to do. I’m really suffering. It’s hard for me having small children. I live in a big house with two stories and it’s hard to get around. I’m especially miserable because right now I have bronchitis. I am just getting so frustrated because I am falling behind around the house. My husband owns his own business so he isn’t home a lot to help me and he isn’t a very compassionate person. He tells me to stop complaining. I’m in so much pain. He’s being really unfair.
I had an accident 3 years ago now, fell out of a deer stand and hurt my back. I have pain everyday but some days like today, it is so bad i can barley move, I cant get ahold of pain killers due to my recent opiate addiction so what else can I do. Ive already done 1 year of physical therapy.
14 Years Old, Back Pain?
Feb 28
Hi! Im 14 years old and I have been having a lot of back pain mostly in my lower back and then shooting up my spine, so I went to my doctor and had x-rays taken and when they came back I had slight scoliosis. I have to go to physical therapy and my therapist is telling me that another thing that is hurting my back is that I have rounded shoulder blades. When I do some exercises like laying on my stomache and putting my arms straight forward and lifting them, I can barely lift them at all. She tells me that I am very weak. so…my question is do you think this is that big of a deal like doing the exercises or just do you think it is sort of serious????
I’m pretty sure I have a herniated disc. I have been in extreme pain for 11 days now with no sign of improvement. If I bend over or move wrong, it feels like I’m getting shocked by electricity. I mean REALLY shocked, not just tingling. It usually shoots down my legs, but yesterday I had one that made my cheeks tingle. This is the worse pain I have ever felt. I don’t have insurance, but it doesnt matter because I have had back problems in the past where I had physical therapy, so this is considered a pre-existing condition. I don’t want to form a habit of taking painkillers, but right now that seems to be my only option.
27 yo f. 105 lbs 5’4″ I’ve had a sonogram and docs found nothing. One doc thinks it might be a pushed out muscle, she thinks physical therapy can help push it back in.It looks like an oversized love handle and still growing. It doesn’t hurt when I push on it or when when I walk. It’s a very slight pain, that comes and goes every hour or so. I don’t feel it in my spine, just deep in my left side and nothing I do makes it hurt worse. Should docs look for anything else. One doc told me that it’s just fat! Fat doesn’t freaking hurt and I’m skinnier than most of hollywood! Could it be cysts?
About almost a year ago i woke up with a stiff neck one morning out of nowhere. The pain never went away. I have a stiff neck, mainly on my right side of my neck up to about the middle of my head, tight shoulders, and a tight upper back, all sometimes with pain too. I’ve had an x-ray on my neck which came out normal, physical therapy for 2 months which didnt improve much, and an mri that came back pretty normal on my neck and upper back. Minor scoliosis but the orthopedic doctor saw nothing that looked too extreme, but he was also a clueless idiot. Can anyone help me out…..it’s so stressful, physically and mentally.
I was involved in a car accident almost 5 years ago. I’ve been to one chiropractor for almost 2 years with no results. Then to 2 different physical therapy, with little relief besides when they pulled my neck away from my body. I’ve had many injections in my back, 1 lasting 3-4 months, another for 1 month or so, and the others maybe a week or so, sometimes nothing at all.
I’ve had 2 Epidurals done, one lasted 3 months the other a month.
I’ve gone to a sports medicine doctor, a few other specialists. Most not recommending surgery because they cannot find the problem. I had a cat scan and a MRI and showed there was something a bit strange in my T 7-8 in my back. I have to take vicodin everyday for pain, and sometimes it doesn’t even work. I’m a healthly 22 year old. Working out at the gym seems to help my back sometimes. It’s a sharp pain in my upper right side of my back, near my spine too. If you push on certain spots on my spine near the pain, its really tender.
I’m running out of help and ideas, please someone, guide me towards someone to see, or some kind of doctor, I will not do surgery as i’ve been recommended not to, so I’m not sure what to do. I just need help, I want to be normal again and not in pain. I still can barely do the things I love and it’s really starting to take effect on how I live my life and my mood. Please someone…. Help..
I live near SF, California if that helps.
I have minor arthritis in the back, I’ve hyper extended it a few times (thrown off of a horse, fell down the stairs) and physical therapy doesn’t help. I see a chiropractor 3 times a week and he only helps a little bit. I can’t do any housework or waliking for more than about 20 min. before I start to have major pain. I’m only 30 and fear it will get worse as I get older. Especially if I ever have children. I’ve had an open MRI in which they didn’t find anything wrong. Please, any advice or tips? Any ideas or answers to my pain? I have a dr. apt. next week with my orthopedic.
