I have pain in one side of my lower body. it starts on my butt cheek, then down the hamstring and back of knee and down to my calf muscle. Also my foot is somewhat numb. I have to walk with a limp, I can sit down but it hurts to get up. Also, laying in bed hurts when I turn over. I have been to the Dr. and there is possibility of orthopedic surgery. Has anyone heard of not electing to have surgery, and have chiropractor or physical therapy/massage fix the problem? What about acupuncture will that correct the bulging disk. I saw the MRI and can see where it is a bulge, but the Dr. looks like she might be pushing surgery because it costs more money. Anyone have the same problem(s)? Serious answers by people who have had this problem before or doctors, please. Dont answer if you think you might know or are just guessing.

I had been having pain/tingling in my left leg all the way to my foot so I seen the doctor and he did an mri and they diagnosed me with a bulging disc in my lower back and prescribed physical therapy. I havnt had my first appt yet but this morning I woke up and my left leg doesnt hurt but now my right leg hurts all the way to my foot. Does anyone know if this is normal with a bulging disc or could it be a sign that things are getting worse/better?
I was in a car accident 2 months ago. I did not brace myself for the accident; I didn’t see it coming. I am in a tremendous amount of pain in both my arms, neck, shoulders, and hands. The pain is stabbing, sometimes pins/needles, and it hurts to hold/grip on object even as light as a glass of water or a magazine. On occasion I get lower back pain. I have never had any injuries prior to this accident and I am only 22 years old. I have been seeing a Chiropractor, massage therapist, doing physical therapy and seeing my MD. I had an MRI done which shows a bulging disc in C-5/C-6 area. Nothing seems to be making the pain go away; not even muscle relaxers. My MD says its just muscle strain, but my Chiropractor says its from the bulging disc. Personally, I don’t see how it could be muscle strain because I did not brace myself for the accident. Both doctor’s have seen the MRI report. I am going to see an Orthopedic Surgeon, but not for a couple of months. Is there any way to tell whether it is disc pain or muscle injury?
I have been diagnosed by my family doctor as having two bulging disks. I have a lot of pain with them. I am going to a back sugeon tomorrow. I would really like to have some questions ready. I have already tried physical therapy twice and I currently take an anti inflamatory med and Darvocet as needed. Of course I will ask what are my non surgical options. I am only 26 years old and I have had this pain for years so surgery is not completely out of the question. I’ve heard there is not much they can do besides surgery and therapy.
Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks!!
I’m talking meds AND most importantly, ways to fix the problem altogether.
My doctor prescribed Diclofenac, Darvocet and Skelaxin as well as physical therapy to begin with. The physical therapy seemed to do wonders, however, after I stopped going the pain became even worse than before. I am now on Tramadol and Tylenol 3 and I’m wondering what to do next. The doctor just seems to think that I shouldn’t work as much as I do, but I have to. I have bills to pay!!!
So, what do doctors normally do (cause I think mine is a kook!) and what has worked for you in the past?
I have a herniated disc in the C4/C5 region and a bulging disc below it. I have tried physical therapy, acupuncture, ice packs, heat packs – but nothing seems to relieve the pain. Any suggestions?
Help. I’m a college student who has tried everything from pain management to chiropractic to orthopedic to physical therapy.
Just got MRI results back. Family Doc says I have a bulging disk between C5-C6. Went to pain management yesterday and that Doc said it is pressing on the nerves affecting my left arm. I refused steroids shots b/c I am not in severe pain or debilitated. I am being sent to physical therapy which is fine with me as I need to learn how to do things so it does not get worse. Anyhow, what is the difference between buldging disks and herniated disks? I thought they were the same but I think I am mistaken. Also, any advice?
I have been diagnosed with a bulging disc and have had flareups in the past but have always been able to walk and be mobile even with the pain. I have done Physical Therapy and have not had any problems for about 10 months. I bent over to pick up a sock off the floor and the pain brought me to my knees. I ended up on the floor with excruciating pain. It was so severe, I could not move any part of my body without severe pain. I literally could not get up off the floor because the pain was so severe. I crawled to my bed and with my husbands help got in the bed after being on the floor after 4 hours. I was barely able to walk the next day but after being on a steroid for 5 days I am doing much better. I still have pain in my hips and down my legs but my back seems fine. Is this the symptoms of a bulging disc? I have had these problems in the past but never this severe.
