I am applying to PT school this fall and currently have a 3.6 GPA as a psychology major. I have completed all of my pre-reqs except Human Anatomy and have recieved Bs in most of the pre-req lectures and As in the labs. I have completed probably around 80 hours in an accute hospital setting and maybe 35 hours (so far) in a outpatient setting. I have volunteered 80 hours at the nursing home helping out with the residents. I’d like to volunteer at my local Free Clinic as well but it really all depends on my schedule for the upcoming semester. I have also participated in undergraduate research with one of my psychology professors for a semester. I have recieved numerous recommendation letters from my volunteer experiences as well as professors. I haven’t taken the GRE yet but with everything I have done so far, what do my chances look like for getting into PT school?
I’ve gotten a 30 on my ACT and my GPA is 4.7/4.0 (Yeah.. it’s higher than 4.0 because I’ve taken honors and AP classes). I’m ranked 3rd in my class out of about 365 students. I have approximately 80 volunteer hours between volunteering at a physical therapy clinic, guided study tutoring at my high school, and at the public library. I’ve been learning karate for 3 years and will be testing for my black belt this January. I’ve won 2 events at one of my karate tournaments a couple years ago. I’m in approx. 6 clubs at school (mathletes, HOSA, and Robotics, just to name a few). I can still take the ACT one last time this September, but I absolutely DON’T want to take it unless my score of 30 is too low. Should I retake it or will I be fine with my current credentials? I’m looking for answers preferably from someone actually IN the PT GPPA program at UIC, or any other direct PT program in universities in the Midwest. Please and Thank You :]
