I am considering going to this school for their physical therapy program but want to make sure that I am choosing a strong program.
I’m a professional truck drive. I just had lumbar back surgery this June for a few weeks I felt great, but now the pain in legs, feet and butt is back. I tried the non narcotic- Gabentin and it worked great. And I didn’t get drowsy or high. But by DOT stds anything that says could make you drowsy is a no no. By that criteria my blood pressure pills would be contraband. Or most otc allergy meds. They don’t make me sleepy tho labels says they could. They keep me alive.
I heard that some times you can get a exemption if a doctor says the med is needed and won’t make you sleepy. Is their anyone out there who has experience with painkillers and the DOT.?
The pain isn’t as bad as before the surgery yet… and I’m working out like a maniac at physical therapy…but Sometimes its so intense I wish I’d die. I’m certainly not attentive due the lightheadedness the pain brings. I have to return to work soon and need relief but don’t want to lose my job by failing a drug test. Any ideas? Good drugs that won’t make me fail DOT drug test that work. Tried accupuncture, chiro, didn’t work.
im interested in physical therapy. I know i would have to choose a biology major or an exercise major. Is brooklyn college good enough for those programs?
I’m looking for a good pain management doctor in Phoenix, AZ. He/she needs to be the type who believes in giving prescriptions for narcotic pain med’s. Reason being, what is wrong with my spine cannot be corrected or fixed. I’ve done the physical therapy route, the epidural, etc. and nothing helps. I’ve already had 2 spine surgery’s and one reconstructive surgery. The reconstructive wasn’t to help with my pain but just to put me back together again after my first surgeon massively made mistakes and left me with a bunch of missing bone, etc.. I also have a lot of scar tissue impinging on nerve roots and Fibromyalgia to top things off. I take Oxycontin for pain. My current doctor isn’t really up to date with today’s technology and also is very negligent with my care. I see him every month and the actual appt. lasts only long enough for him to write out a new prescription. I don’t even have enough time to sit down. I’m not allowed to tell him of any of my problems and have ended up walking out the door with a broken elbow, new pain in other areas, and much more. I need a doctor who will actually listen and maybe run a test or two every few years. So please, if you know of a doctor who fits this profile, please be kind enough to share his name with me.
P.S. I don’t want any doctors who are against actually prescribing pain med’s. They may be great for others who don’t need them but not for those of us who do just to have some quality of life.
I have been suffering from back pain since 1993, when my ex husband and i, along with 2 of our friends and their baby were in a head-on collision with a drunk driver. I was young and dumb and continued to do things as if there were no injury to my back, after going periodically to see a doctor or chiropractor, which made me re-injure it several times. About 7 years ago, they diagnosed me with having arthritis in three different areas of my spine, and it has steadily gotten worse and worse since then.
I have been through physical therapy a number of times, and it never seems to help anything, just makes the pain worse. I am on 1000mg of Alieve a day, along with Flexeril, which is a muscle relaxer, up to 3x a day. While it helps reduce the swelling, inflammation, and muscle spasms in my back, it does nothing for the pain levels i am experiencing on a day to day basis.
I know that narcotics are hard on your liver, and it’s not good to take them for a long period of time, but i need to find something that has the strength of a narcotic that i can take regularly that will help the pain in my spine, without being to rough on my liver.
Ultram does nothing for me, hydros make me sick from all the tylenol, i can’t take a lot of tylenol because it makes me sick as well, and i just don’t know of any others that would be beneficial that are non-narcotic.
Right now i’m on percocet for an infected tooth, and let me say my back pain is way less than it has been over the last year, but i know i can’t take it a real long time because it’s another one that’s hard on your liver. Does anyone know of any kind of pain medication that doesn’t destroy your liver?
Is Athletic Training A Good Undergraduate Degree For Someone Who Wants To Be A Physical Therapist?
Feb 11
Honestly, I am iffy about the Physical Therapy because of the added school time I will need. BUT with Athletic Training I’ll be doing so many cool things like I’d be doing as a PT, but with only 4 years of school. Either way. If I wanted to do the DPT, I could just apply to graduate school.
A little back info: I had a major car accident in 2006, and came out with what I assumed was nothing more than a seat belt shaped bruise. I declined offers to go to the emergency room, as I thought I was fine, but a few days after I found that I was in increasingly bad back pain. By the time I found a doctor and was put through physical therapy, most of the muscles in my cervical and thoratic spine had atrophied to some degree, and this limits my mobility and gives me daily pain. Since 2006 I have been on both Ultram and Flexeril to control pain, but they are both doing a whole lot of nothing.
I plan on seeing my doctor today- how should I approach the topic of receiving stronger pain meds without seeming like a junkie? It’s not as if I’m asking to be on morphine… I just want to be able to do things my peers are doing. Being 20 and in pain all the time is pretty depressing.
I am wanting to go back to college and wanting to major in Physical therapy? I want to know if Ivy Tech prepares you for that career..
I’m looking for a physical therapist who can tell me about how to go about in applying for physical therapy school and what kind of undergraduate degree would help in preparing for this degree. Can you refer me to a chat room with other physical therapist or a web site to get more information on this subject?
