I’m not personally in any pain, but I’m writing a book and one of the characters walks with a cane.
He’s male and sixteen years old. He’s average weight and height.
I was going to just have him have an injury from falling in track or something, but I thought, ‘No… that would heal and get better eventually.’
What I’m looking for is some sort of condition that would make his knee hurt, but not insanely horrible all the time. Something that couldn’t be cured simply with surgery, but something that’d need some physical rehab or something.

This is the situation that has happened to a neighbor of mine: the man was in a auto accident where the other driver admits full responsibility and has full coverage. The injured party has large and serious bruising on his knee and his foot and ankle as a result. He goes to his PCP who refers him to a orthopoedic surgeon who takes x-rays of the ankle and the knee… he finds no fracture but he wants the man to have physical rehab for the ankle.
My question is does the auto insurance of the reponsible party only pay for the medical procedures… or would they also consider pain and suffering? And is that a given?
This neighbor is a 50 year old man who had a stroke many years ago and is currently unemployed… he is also on coumadin (a blood thinner that no doubt contributed to his severe bruising… of course he has the right to drive and is not impaired). He is not the brightest bulb and I want him to be fairly compensated….. he’s a good guy and I am afraid that he might be taken advantage of.
Also, is “pain and suffering” amounts (if it would be warranted) based on a scale of how much the medical procedures cost? In other words, if the medical bills totalled $1000 would he expect 2 or 3 times more than that?
I would really appreciate any answers from anywhere who knows about this type of law… thank you.
I’m only 23 years old and I’ve already had surgery on one of my knees about 7 years ago for meniscus tears. I occasionally still suffer from knee pain, but once the weather gets cold, they start to hurt even worse. Does anyone know what causes this? Also..since I’ve already had surgery and many physical therapy sessions, why do I still have pain? Arthritis runs in my family and I’m scared that if I have knee pain now and I’m only in my 20’s I can only imagine how it will be when I’m older!
I hurt my shoulder over three years ago while lifting. I was doing incline bench and on the way down I felt a sharp pain. It pretty much ended my lifting at the time and could no longer bare the pain while working out. Three years later I still feel the pain and now am wondering if I tore it and would my next step be a MRI or could physical therapy fix this?
I had failed osteochandral drilling followed by OATS Knee to Ankle for a 1cm defect on my left talus. 4 months post-op I had 3 months of physical therapy that generated nothing but pain. Now 10 months post op I am having more PT with even more mind blowing pain. I lost a lot of range of motion too. The lesion is healed. Does anyone have any suggestions?
My right shoulder staring hurting about 5 weeks ago. It happened at work while lifting heavy objects over my head. At first my shoulder hurt and was really stiff. I also have trouble sleeping on it at night. I went to the doctor he said probably just a strain and ordered physical therapy and naproxen 3X a day. Physical therapy relieved stiffness but pain is still there. Actually it’s spreading. It started out just deep in my shoulder now it’s radiating down my arm, in between my shoulder blades and even alittle in my neck. Also, hands have been feeling weird. I also can’t move my right arm across my body to my other shoulder. It feels like it’s stuck and can’t move no farther. Sometimes you can force it alittle other times you can’t Now, my other shoulder is starting same thing. I’ve had a MRI but doctor says it showed nothing. He told me it may just be something that I have to learn to deal with. .
So i was hit by a car a few months ago.
i fractured my elbow and got surgery on it.
i got the surgery july 10th and it was in a brace untill september
so i have physical therapy because i havnt been able to put it straight or bend it (to get my hand to reach my shoulder.)
Whenever the therapist stretches it (forces it to go straight and bend) it hurts so much. it feels like the bone is just about to snap in half. it is about my 4th week in therapy and I don’t feel any change in the pain
is my arm supposed to feel like its gunna snap in half when he’s stretching it ??? he puts it at 0 degrees so he fully straightens it
but it hurts so damn much 
So does anyone know if its normal to hurt this much?

I’ve been doing physical therapy for a year now. I’m a 16 year old female and I hurt my shoulder playing softball. I did physical therapy yesterday and my shoulder is still hurting me today really bad to where my arm has throbbing pain. They did ultrasound, put Electra pads on my shoulder. Could it have done something to my shoulder to make it hurt bad? Please help me.
