My husband has chronic lower back pain as a result of an injury many years ago. MRI shows nothing other than slight fluid in the facet joints. We have tried physical therapy (which made it worse), chiropractic, multiple anti-inflmmatory pills, steriod injection into the back, burning the nerves, pain management clinic, Vicadin, and various opiate based drugs. it is so debilitating he can’t work- a simple walk through the grocery store is almost more than he can handle and he has a pretty high pain tolerance. Sitting is also uncomfortable. He can’t hold our baby unless he lays down because he is afraid of dropping him if a spasm hits. This has been going on for a year now and has had a major negative impact on our lives. Has anyone else dealt with a similar problem and did you ever get a diagnosis and treatment that worked?

I had a tumor that destroyed my humerus (upper arm bone) when I was a teenager. I’ve been having problems with it lately as well as severe headaches and back pain. The doctors give me vicodin for the pain but I’m having to take more of it in shorter periods of time to get relief. We tried pain management with naproxen and I broke out in hives. They are leery about physical therapy in case it makes it worse. I seem to be losing muscle and have a decreased range of motion. Heat works well but I can’t stay under a heating pad all of the time. Has anyone had success in controlling pain in any other way? The hardware in my arm is stable and there are no new tumors causing the pain. They think the arm is becoming too weak to support with the muscle I have left.
For bout a month now, I’ve been in and out of the doctor’s office, an orthopedic, and now a physical therapist’s office. I’ve had x-rays of my hips and lower back, a CT Scan of my spleen since I’m just getting over mono, blood work to rule out a couple of things that run in my family like lupus, and an ultrasound of my kidneys to see if it was a kidney stone like my doctor originally thought.
When all of that was ruled out, I was sent to an orthopedic. The orthopedic said that it sounded like my facet joints being inflamed due to the mono though it was rare for my age, and my muscles were tightening in response which could have resulted in my siatic (not sure how to spell that, sorry) nerve being pinched by them. I was told physical therapy for two week, twice a week, my muscle relaxers and an anti-inflammatory.
When I saw the therapist, at the end of the session, she said it sounded and seemed more like a disc problem to her. We told her that disc issues run in my family which they do, on all sides. I go back to therapy this Wednesday and Friday, and then the orthopedic on Friday afternoon after therapy. If I’m not feeling better which I haven’t been, then I go for an MRI.
I’ve been on 3 different pain killers which I’ve been told to stop taking them now to prevent getting an addiction to them. I can only sit in the computer chair, I’m home bound from school (a teacher from the county comes to me), I can’t bend in any way, I can barely get dressed, I can’t even lift my left leg up to put a sock on. I’m a 16 year old female, I’ve always had minor back problems, at least the last few years I have, but nothing ever quite like this. My dad seems to agree with the therapist, and I’m just worrying a lot. The pain goes from the lower left side of my back, through my butt, down my leg to my foot and back up, just on the back side of my leg. For a few days the pain was just to my knee and back, but it’s started going down farther. I’m currently sleeping on the couch before I can’t lift my leg to get in my bed (it’s a higher then normal bed), and this has been going on for the last month or so like I stated above.
Is there a doctor on here or someone that’s gone through something similar that could maybe give me an idea of what exactly this could be because if it’s a disc issue then I’m basically looking at surgery and missing a lot of the last 9 weeks of the school year which the 9 weeks starts tomorrow and I’ve already missed basically half of this semester.
I’ve had lower back pain every single day for the past 2 years. I went to a doctor, had physical therapy, been to a chiropractor, acupuncturist, and osteopath. Some methods gave relief, some made it worse. I want to take care of it naturally. I heard vitamin B6 is good. I do do some stretches that I learned from physical therapy. Any other advice?
I fell on my knee and my knee cap slid up. The pain has been going on for about 5 years. I have been to 2 Orthopedic docs.First Doc said it was in my head. Had xrays and an MRI. The MRI showed fluid under my kneecap so the 2nd doc gave me a shot and put me in physical therapy for 6 weeks. It has been a year since then and I am still having pain. I went back in November he gave me another shot and told me to do more excercise. It has not gone away and I don’t feel like I should have to exercise for the rest of my life. It feels like it is inside of my knee hard to explain. Can’t straigten it all the way. Can only bend it for a short amount of time then the pain gets worse. Could there be Scar tissue from an injury that causes the pain. What about the fluid doesn’t that mean that something is wrong? What could it be?
depends when u broke it. i’m assuming u had a cast on for the last 6 weeks. so now i would work on stretching your calf and achillies, also do some light stregth exercises like picking up marbles w/ your toes and putting them in a can or writing the alphabet w/ your toes by using your ankle. stretch it dorsi and plantarflexion wise as well as inversion and eversion. it should hurt a lil when stretching other wise your not doing any good, ice the ankle after exercises and make sure when your walking on it that your walking heal to toe and not w/ your foot out to the side
