Okay, so I’m only 16 years old but I have a recurring pain in my hip/lower back/leg that absolutely will not go away. When I stand, it will start as a dull ache in my hip, and gradually spreads down my leg to about my calves – only not the muscle – and my lower back, and get sharper after a short time. When I walk a very short distance (as short as from one class to another) I’d only take a few steps and it starts up. I can’t bend over, and lying on my stomach or back hurts, which makes sleeping uncomfortable. I also can’t stand up straight, which gets on my nerves the most.
I have experienced this two or three times before, but this time it’s at it’s worst.
Like I said, I’m only 16. I’m not active in any sports or overweight in the slightest (5′7″ and 120 lbs.)
I’ve had x-rays done, but they’re all normal, and my docs don’t seem inclined to really figure out what’s going on. They just told me that if it keeps up, I’ll have to have physical therapy, but I’m scared that if they don’t know exactly what it is it could just get worse.
So yeah. Any ideas?

I also need answers other than going to Physical therapy aid school. Also if anyone knows of a place to get a Physical therapy related job in new jersey that would also be helpful. Thank you
I’m pretty sure I have a herniated disc. I have been in extreme pain for 11 days now with no sign of improvement. If I bend over or move wrong, it feels like I’m getting shocked by electricity. I mean REALLY shocked, not just tingling. It usually shoots down my legs, but yesterday I had one that made my cheeks tingle. This is the worse pain I have ever felt. I don’t have insurance, but it doesnt matter because I have had back problems in the past where I had physical therapy, so this is considered a pre-existing condition. I don’t want to form a habit of taking painkillers, but right now that seems to be my only option.
27 yo f. 105 lbs 5′4″ I’ve had a sonogram and docs found nothing. One doc thinks it might be a pushed out muscle, she thinks physical therapy can help push it back in.It looks like an oversized love handle and still growing. It doesn’t hurt when I push on it or when when I walk. It’s a very slight pain, that comes and goes every hour or so. I don’t feel it in my spine, just deep in my left side and nothing I do makes it hurt worse. Should docs look for anything else. One doc told me that it’s just fat! Fat doesn’t freaking hurt and I’m skinnier than most of hollywood! Could it be cysts?
seem to find out what is causing this. I have had an ex-ray on my hip and nothing, even no arthtitis,I had a cat scan done on my abdomen because the pain also centers on the lower part of my abdomen. I had a hystrectomy when I was 35. So a few weks ago I had a MRI done which showed degenerative disk but not enough to have the pain I have .So I;m nowhere. I suffer from my hip at night, I can no stand or sit for any lenghth of time .I’ve taken pills for pain , depression. I’ve been to a chiropractor who helped many years ago but deosn’t anymore. They say Physical therapy but i walk 20 min everyday and it just brings it on more. anyadvice for LOST IN PAIN
I have a birth defect that in my lower back that causes my last vertabrae to shift. I have been doing physical therapy for years but the problem is getting worse as I age. The doctor said I might have to have it fused. Has anyone out there had this done? Did it work? How miserable was it and how was the rehab?
I am currently 34 weeks and on Thursday I went into my doctor’s office because I was experiencing lower back cramping. It was not severe, but I had never had it before so I thought it best to get checked out. They tentatively diagnosed me with a bladder infection at that time, and said that was the cause of the cramping, but they said they needed to send my urine for testing and would be able to confirm the results at my appointment I had today. Well the test for the infection came back negative, so now I am back to not knowing the reasons for these pains and it makes me nervous. When I got checked out last week, baby was fine and I wasn’t contracting, so I’m not really worried about pre-term labor at this point, but I know there are other potentially serious things, like kidney stones, that can cause lower back pain…but my doctor did not seem concerned and didn’t look any further into the issue other than to suggest physical therapy for the discomfort, as he said that one of the most common complaints late in pregnancy is lower back pain…
So does anyone know of any other causes for this kind of mild, crampy pain? What needs to happen before I go back to the doctor and ask them to please determine the cause officially?
I was in the shower this morning when I fell down because my knees buckled due to a sharp, unbearable pain in my lower back. This has happened twice in the past two years, and it doesn’t subside for at least 10 minutes. I’m good with pain, I’ve torn my ACL and broken both shins but they were NOTHING compared to this =(. Later it was really sore (I could extend but I couldn’t flex my back). There was also tingling down my right leg. I know this has to do with the nerves and discs and stuff (I’m a physical therapy student), but does anyone have an actual diagnosis they know of??
My little brother is in his junior year of high school, and was supposed to be starting wide reciever this year. He had letters as a freshman, but during his sophomore season he began getting a bad pain in his right side. He finished out the season playing less and less with each game. The doctors first said that it was an enlarged liver from when he took a hit to the side. He said the pain would go away within a few weeks. Well it didn’t. So we saw another doctor who diagnosed him with the side stitch. My brother performed the physical therapy and all of the techniques used, but still nothing helped. Since the end of last season (December 2007) he has been diagnosed with enlarged liver, stitches, gallbladder problems, twisted testicle, too much grease and weak abdomen muscles. He took a few months off, rested his side and eventually went back to spring ball where the pain instantly started again, worse than ever before. He has been through 2 acupunctures and still nothing. Deep tissue massages and nothing. He has had multiple X-Rays, an MRI, a Cat Scan, etc. This is very, very frustrating as he isn’t allowed to step onto a football field until he gets fixed. We’re losing optimism every passing day. Does anyone have ANY idea?
