As a soccer player, I have fought shin splints for the last 15 years, however with RICE, they typically go away…..until recently that is. From October – December of 2007, I went for physical therapy which included combinations of ice, heat, massage, ultrasound, stretches, etc. I had some relief for about a month or two, but now the last few months have been agony! No amount of taping, stretching or Aleeve is working.
I only get shin splints when playing soccer. I typically don’t like running (except for soccer) so I walk, bike and use an elliptical or tread climber for exercise. My calves are almost always tight and I have short heel cords. Since I’ve tried all the basics, I’m wondering if anyone has had success with night splints (usually used for plantars fascitis) to treat tight calves. I think if I can correct my tight calves, I may be able to decrease my shin pain. Any advice is welcome.
Also, I have orthodics from a podiatrist and I get massages often.

He also took me captive the morning of Wed. Feb. 06 and 2008. He was clearly out of his mind. I escaped several hours later. I believe he is sinking into dementia, and with his drinking, its getting even worse. The only witness I have to these events is my sister, who is a near-idiot and cannot be relied upon. At least one person suggested that I have him go to rehab – which he will never do. Do I need to have him confined to a psychiatric ward for evaluation? This seems cruel as he is old and has several illnesses. I don’t want him to spend his last days in a ward (or prison), but I feel that I have to protect him – and myself. Should I report this to my local police?
