I work full time for my company, but part-time in one postition and part-time in another still makes me a part-time employee and ineligible for benefits. I make a little too much for medicaid, but not enough to buy a plan that covers me. I lost my last health insurance 2 years ago when I lost my old job while I was having surgeries on my hand to fix a bone defect. My problem is now that I’m having a lot of problems with my hand and will need another surgery to fix the problem. I can’t afford to pay 30k for it and no doctor will do it because it’s “not an emergency” eventhough I’m in pain. I know that I’ll have to be insured for a year before it will cover a pre exhisting. The hospital turned me down for any type assistance, and even if it did I the doctors are all seperate so I’m still in a lot of debt plus physical therapy is expensive.
What can I do?

My grades are just O.K. they dont stand out or anything. Under a 3.0. I would even consider physical therapy assistant first if that would be a easier route
I would like to put Physical Theropy for a career choice but im not sure what category that would fall under.
I am attending Jr college right now, going for a degree in kinesiology ex. science. I am accepted into a 4 year cal state college and will attend this fall. I am taking the pre reqs for pt. So far I am happy with my grades ( A in anatomy, B in nutrition, B , A in physio ( so far, in progress). Unfortunately, I just dropped a physics class because it was too stressful. I dedicated all of my time, and though I would pass, it would have probably been a C. Now I am looking in to Occupational Therapy, which would be a lot less stress full(less sciences). I can pass a year of chem, and a year of physics, but I do not think I can get a competitive grade. I really want to help people with physical pain, and understand the human body in detail. I worry that the alternative career, OT would be nice, but not as fulfilling as PT(I like exercise and movement a LOT). If I am an OT, can I help people with a bad back? Will I learn about skeletal muscle, and how to use an EKG? Finally, If I am an OT and help patients with exercises will it be much different from the activities of a PT? Will I even know the difference?
As a student I will be happier with the school work of an OT. But I am not sure If that career is as exciting and interesting as PT. Please help, I do not want to end up with a BORING career.(that’s right , lifestyle and philosophy is the issue for me , not money)
