I shattered my left ankle and sprained my right ankle by falling off a horse and landing on my feet. The impact was so strong that one of my ankles fractured and the other one resulting in 3rd degree sprain. I’m pretty much in the process of healing for the fractured ankle after 2 surgeries, but I am concerned about the sprained one because I’m still having pain, epecially when I rotate it around.
I also get a sudden sharp pain occasionally whever I’m walking. It’s been 4 months since the accident and I have been going to physical therapy for 2 months already.
Do you think these conditions are considered normal? Am I going to be able to get any better?

If i walk with my knees straight…with no bending at all, i’ve noticed a big difference even from yesterday. The pain that i had is almost gone.
But walking with knees straight is like limping and not normal.
When i attemp to walk normally, i feel weird sensation in the muslce/ligament area above the knee cap, kind of like the Quad muslce. It’s not just weird, it kind of feels like really weird and so i dont feel like i should walk.
Should i keep walking with knees straight so that i dnot cause more damage or should i try to walk normally even if it feels really weird as if my ligament get tied up?
Orthopedic said my knee is stable, he did tell me to go to physical therapy. So that’s what i will do but i was wondering why pain is diminishing but the weird sensation is still there
Hello all. I sprained my knee about 9 days ago. X-rays came back negative for any tears or anything serious, it’s just a sprain. I have some physical exams for jobs coming up at the end of May so I want to be as close to 100% as possible. Right now I have very minimal pain (almost none), but i still walk with a slight limp due to stiffness in my knee. I can straighten it about 90% of the way, but can only bend it about 70%. I still cannot run or do anything high impact. Anyhow, I have 2 questions:
(1) Should I keep icing it? I barely have any swelling left, it pretty much looks the same as my healthy knee. If not should I apply heat & start stretching etc.?
(2) I stopped wearing my knee brace once the pain & swelling went away because I heard if you keep wearing a brace your knee will take longer to heal, however I can walk better with the brace on, so should I start wearing it again or keep it off? My goal is to heal as quickly as possible.
Thanks all!!!
2 Months 2 weeks ago, I went to the ER for severe knee pain and I was told that I had classic symptoms of a meniscus (sp) tear. I am still in pain, there is still some swelling, and it is still tender to the touch. I went to the employee wellness office since it was an on the job injury. I have had an X-ray (no broken bones) and an MRI (Nothing was torn according to this doc). Since was a work related injury, I feel as if they are down playing this injury. After the first visit with this doc, he called it a sprain. After the 2nd visit, he said it was just damaged cartilalige (sp) and it just needed to heal on its own. On the 3rd visit I was told that it was just “growing pains” and I would just have to deal with it for the rest of my life. I am at a loss! I have an appointment with an orthorpedic doc later today. I just wanted to know what you guys think about this. I have also had 3 weeks of physical therapy (3x a week) and on the very last week, we started a new machine. I have been dealing with SHARP pains in 2 new places on the other side of my knee. Honestly, I am a tough person (Hey I had 5 brothers I better be) but I am in more pain than I should be in after an injury that is 2 months old.
The Ortho doc said it was VERY bad cart. damage. I have loose bodies floating around and I have to have surgery to fix it. NOW what do I do?
A player of mine was complaining of ankle pain, so I sent him in to the trainer for diagnosis. He said it was a high ankle sprain, and that there was nothing that could be done to treat/stretch it. This would mean that he will be bothered by this for the remaining 2 months of the season, and I wish to get him healed sooner than that. Is there any type of physical therapy I can do, or are there certain stretches I can have him do? We are taping his foot up really tight and just having him play on it right now. The trainer said this won’t cause further damage, but will delay the healing process.
Hello. I slipped on some ice at work three weeks ago, and in the ER they said there wasn’t anything “obviously” broken. I got referred to a Podiatrist in the area. He said to RICE it and signed me up for physical therapy. I have my second appt on Wed, because the paperwork for Workmans comp took awhile.
Anyway, I am still experiencing pretty bad pain and swelling, and it is still bruised. I am in a “moon boot” and I am supposed to be putting more weight on it now, but it hurts worse, especially when I am doing my Range of Motion exercises. Granted I am a teacher so I probably haven’t been off of it as much as I should be.
I was wondering if I should call my podiatrist back, the therapist said to me on Friday that it was unusual that I haven’t had repeat x-rays or an MRI yet. SHould I also look into getting a second opinion? I have had ankle sprains before, on my other ankle and none have been as bad or as painful as this one. Help me out if you can!
Hey, what kind of stuff does the doctor do for physical therapy for the neck. I have a neck sprain and the doctor is going to get me signed for physical therapy on my neck. I am 16 years old but he claims I have a neck of a 70 year old.
