About 2 months ago I was running on my treadmill. I recently increased the mileage and was running about 5 miles a day, without stretching, without warming up or cooling down. Then one day towards the end of a run, my knee locked on the outside of my right knee. I walked out the rest of the half mile. That night there was extreme pain to the point i couldnt walk. I began icing it and taking motrin. It wasnt doing much at all. I went to physical therapy and still there but with little success, my physical therapist says it might be a meniscus tear. From what ive noticed i think it is my IT band. But still to this day its difficult to run and near impossible to move laterally quickly. The side of my knee is stiff and only a little swollen. It is also very tender and stiff on all the tendons coming from the outside of my thigh to my knee. I dont know what to do to fix this nagging problem. My delima is that i ship out to parris island for the marine corps on may 18th. I have to fix my problem. any suggestions? thank you

Hi all, I had my left knee scoped last week (8 days ago), all they did was clean up wear and tear and remove a small piece of torn cartilage. I started physical rehab 5 days after surgery, so far i am improving a lot, riding a stationary bike 8 days post-op. My full recovery is expected by the doctor in 4 weeks, I’m just wondering when the swelling will completely go away (it has to some extent). I can bend my knee almost all the way, but it gets stopped just before i reach all the way, my PT said its due to the stiffness because of swelling that hasn’t completely subsided.
So how long till the swelling completely goes away and the stiffness leaves? It’s gone down quite a bit in a week, but not fully gone. And what would help speed up that process?

Severe Joint pain and stiffness . . . what is the cause?

I am a 27 year old woman with the following history:
car accident with severe back sprain/strain in ‘05, with 9 month of physical therapy
severe pain in butt and back of legs/sciatica ‘07. Pain increased, then began to feel numbness in legs, could barely walk in the morning. MRI came back clean, but Doc thought perhaps I had a disc that only bulged while sitting.
The last year or so, I’ve been experiencing severe joint stiffness and joint pain. Always incredibly stiff and painful in the morning ( i basically walk with a waddle). Hips ache and are in pain all morning long while in bed, hips stiff and hurt all day. Pretty severe joint stiffness in elbows too.
Your thoughts? All reltated to old car accident? Or, is it something else?
