I had shoulder arthroscopy with a Bankart Repair, Remplissage (technique to deal with large, engaging Hill-Sachs lesions that involves anchoring part of the rotator cuff into the divot in the bone), and tightening of the front of the joint capsule on January 5. I just started, per surgeon’s orders, physical therapy this past Monday (February 1).
All that’s being done at this point is passive movement, mostly stretching, not past 30 degrees of external rotation or above shoulder height to the front.
I’ve only had it twice, but the pain is excruciating. On the pain scale of 0-10 (10 being the worst, 0 being no pain) I went from approximately a 3 (on 800mg of ibuprofen) or a 5-6 (no painkillers) on Sunday to an 8 Monday night after PT, had my second session today, and am currently hovering around a 6 on percocet (which was prescribed post-surgery- I had a few left and the pain after PT was around a 9).
Anyway, what I’m wondering is, is this level of pain normal at this stage? I’ve left a message for my surgeon, but tomorrow is his surgery day, so it’s unlikely he’ll get back to me before Monday (possibly tomorrow night if he checks with his office before going home). If it reaches such a high level (8-10) again, should I just not worry about him for the moment and go to the emergency room, or is this to be expected and the ER will just tell me to ice/rest/take anti-inflammatories, etc?
Just some stats that may or may not be relevant:
22-year-old female in good physical condition (5′5″, 117, exercise regularly and eat healthily)
Injury was from a bicycle accident in October that resulted in a dislocation and severe instability
Currently taking Avelox (Leviquin) for chronic sinus infection
No other health problems
Thank you!

My 17-year old son was born with Radial-Ulnar Synostosis. It is present in his left arm and he has extremely minimal rotation of his hand and wrist. This has limited him in performing daily tasks without help and also with lifting heavy objects. He has been teased about it all his life. There was no pain present at a young age, but when he started maturing pain started increasing. I took him to see an orthopaedic surgeon when he was 15 years of age. The doctor told him lies and that my son would have to just deal with it for the rest of his life. After the incident of consulting this doctor, he was sent to physical therapy to gain strength in his left arm. He participated in this for several months until there was similar strength compared to the right arm.He would love to have the surgery done. For Christmas this year he has asked for treatment for his arm. I wish there was a doctor that would help make this happen. If anyone could help that would be a great thing.

I live in Canada, but need help from both Canadians and Americans, please.
My wife needs a knee replacement desperately. She has been told by 2 doctors that she needed one, but one doctor said that she doesn’t need it. HealthCanada is taking the position that it is not medically necessary and are therefor not covering the procedure. We have filed appeals but have been told that physical therapy and pain medication would do just fine. My wife can barely walk, though, even with pain medication. She is using a cane and trying to do physical therapy, but it is too painful she said. Sometimes the pain is so bad I find her crying after a day of trying to walk.
We are thinking of going to the USA to get the replacement done, but we would really prefer to get it done in Canada since it will be cheaper. My wife has been out of work and we aren’t making as much money as we used to. I am an American citizen and I have American Health Insurance.
How can we coordinate all this with an American doctor? The doctor who said that she needs the replacement said he will send all records to a doctor in the USA, but we need to find one first.
We really need help badly.
Suggestions would be great. Thanks.

a year ago I had surgery on my knee because I had discoid meniscus along with a tear in the cartilage. now I went to physical therapy afterward and it helped to some extent but as soon as I joined gym class my knee started hurting again so I got out of it and then about 6 month later I once again joined only to have my knee start hurting and now making this cracking sound. so of course once again I went to orthopedic and he gave me a doctors note and strict orders not to run and continue my physical therapy excercises at home. I have days that I’m fine and normal but other days my knee hurts for no reason at all and it has continued cracking(painfully at times) and of course I have no physical activity.
what do you think the reasons for the cracking and random pains are? and is there any way I can get rid of them without having to have surgery again? any excercises you might recomend?
I had my acl surgery 5 weeks ago, I’m doing great in my rehab, but my cuadricep and harmstring are still very week, my physical therapist says that I’m probably not going to get my strength and size back until 5 or 6 month, is there a way for me to get them back faster so and balance the strength of both legs

i have been in a walking boot for 3 weeks now
went to the doctor tuesday he examined my foot bc im in quite a bit of pain still. he took x-rays. he came back in the room within like 5 mins and re-examined my foot in like the middle of it. didnt/wouldnt say y. he asked if i had pain but i didnt. so he said to do physical therapy for a few weeks to see if my foot calms down after it gains strength back. im stuck in my walking boot for another week or 2 at least. if pain persist ill be back in the cast. what is going on he wouldnt give any ideas except he said pt might help it
I was in a car accident a little over a year ago, I had a pre existing back problem that was retriggered, I have been through physical therapy, injections and a back brace. My orthopedic specialist informed me that surgery would be my best option. I am alittle apprehensive, but I am tired of being in pain. Can anyone tell me what to expect after surgery? What kind of lawsuit do I have? I was rear-ended on my way home from work in a construction zone.
Lower Back Pain Surgery?
Feb 1
Hello there. My back pain has not responded to all conventional types of treatment including physio and chiro. It has been going on for over 5 years and is seriously hindering my quality of life. The problem is that the mri and ct and x-rays show nothing. I have heard that surgery can be warranted when a patient doesn’t respond to physical therapy (pretty much my situation). I have tried everything and nothing has worked! I want to get a spinal fusion or something. What are your guy’s thoughts?
