No, there are different licensure requirements between PTs, ATCs, and PTAs…one cannot fulfill the official role of the other. However, ATCs can work as a physical therapy technician which is an unlicensed position that typically requires direct supervision by a PT and usually pays about $17,000 a year.

I have a knee, doctor says there is something wrong with my patella, he says it is from a sudden jolt of action (when not Warmed up).
If I had taken physical therapy, does it actually work?
can OTs help with things like shoulder pain? what about heart disease (cardiac rehab)? any other diseases (physical) that they deal with??
I decided that I want to pursue physical therapy as a career versus going to medical school. I graduated from the University of Illinois a BS in Liberal Arts and Sciences (chemistry major) in May 2006. Have been working as a chemist in lab since August 2006. Plan on taking GRE by the end of the year and may have to retake some prerequisites to boost GPA. Any help that can be provided is much appreciated.
Hello,
I was wondering what the typical work schedule for a physical therapy assistants is? Are there a lot of nights and weekend schedules associated with physical therapy careers?
I have worked at my current employer for 4 years. Very good attendence, very good performance, top notch employer. Two months ago I was the victim of an auto accident. In that time I have missed about 100 hours from work. Missed work was due to doctors appt., physical therapy appts., psychologist appts., all of which I had a doctors note each time. The other times I was out was from not being able to get outta the bed from my lower back pain. All this they are aware of and they haven’t said anything to me other than I hope you get to feeling better. Then they had a meeting with me today & wanted to know what’s going on & what can be done to help my production. They commented that I have always been a great employee but now it’s going down hill and they claim they understand because of the tragic accident I was in but the way they sounded is I better shape up or they’ll ship me out. They said I need to get with HR & show them all my medical notes. I am scared. Can they fire me?
I was recently reading a about a college that offers the DPT (Doctorate of Physical Therapy) degree program and among the criteria for acceptance was “work experience”. Does that imply that I need to have physical therapy job experience under my belt to even apply for the program? Other than being a stay-at-home mom of almost 6 years, I only have military and some college experience besides some lower income jobs held during high school.
I recently posted a question about swelling and after some responses i have a new question. After I totaled my car when I hit a tree and broke my left foot, right tibula (compound), fibula, and femur, I went through surgery and have had NO physical therapy at all (doctor never mentioned it) and no guidance from a physician it has been 5 weeks tomorrow. I was back at work 3 weeks after the wreck and had stiches and staples removed at the 4 week mark. I am driving and working but having swelling and pain. I have an ace bandage on the leg and knee brace on the right leg were surgery was performed. Am i just being completely stupid (won’t hurt my feelings if someone feels that way) and risking further injury or poor recovery? Also I am smoking cigarettes again, will that further worsen my case? Thanks for any answers out there, my doctors and surgeons had none.
I was having alot of pain after surgery and physical therapy did not help,i told the surgeon and he said there was nothing more he could offer me,but another cortizone shot! I went to have a second opinion and my new surgeon said that i have radial tunnel and cubital tunnel which the emg showed abnormalities. This is a work related injury. My new surgeon said in his report that the tennis elbow surgery failed, and there should have been more tests on my elbow by my previous surgeon. Can anybody please help me with what i,ve gone thru?
