husband injured his back at work, he was out of work for a few weeks and recieved workman’s comp. then he was released back to work on light duty. he has been going to physical therapy 3 times a week for 2 months and has recieved 3 (maximum per year!) cortisone shots and is still in so much pain he can hardly move sometimes! it hurts him to sit or stand to long, his restrictions are no standing for long periods, no heavy lifting, squatting, bending, repetitive motion, or walking long distances. he is a custodian at a local high school and his light duty is cleaning all desks and chairs, walking the campus of the school to different class rooms etc. his sick and vacation days kicked back in july 1st, and when he wanted to use a sick day last week – because he woke up and could hardly move! – they said he couldn’t, he had to take a dock day because he was on work restricton!!! this makes NO sense to us! why can’t he use his sick day???

I have worked at my current employer for 4 years. Very good attendence, very good performance, top notch employer. Two months ago I was the victim of an auto accident. In that time I have missed about 100 hours from work. Missed work was due to doctors appt., physical therapy appts., psychologist appts., all of which I had a doctors note each time. The other times I was out was from not being able to get outta the bed from my lower back pain. All this they are aware of and they haven’t said anything to me other than I hope you get to feeling better. Then they had a meeting with me today & wanted to know what’s going on & what can be done to help my production. They commented that I have always been a great employee but now it’s going down hill and they claim they understand because of the tragic accident I was in but the way they sounded is I better shape up or they’ll ship me out. They said I need to get with HR & show them all my medical notes. I am scared. Can they fire me?

I recently posted a question about swelling and after some responses i have a new question. After I totaled my car when I hit a tree and broke my left foot, right tibula (compound), fibula, and femur, I went through surgery and have had NO physical therapy at all (doctor never mentioned it) and no guidance from a physician it has been 5 weeks tomorrow. I was back at work 3 weeks after the wreck and had stiches and staples removed at the 4 week mark. I am driving and working but having swelling and pain. I have an ace bandage on the leg and knee brace on the right leg were surgery was performed. Am i just being completely stupid (won’t hurt my feelings if someone feels that way) and risking further injury or poor recovery? Also I am smoking cigarettes again, will that further worsen my case? Thanks for any answers out there, my doctors and surgeons had none.
